The Karate Session | { Lexington Ky Family Photographer }

I always like a challenge so when I was approached to do a little karate session I quickly obliged.   This is one sport that I have very little knowledge of so I did not know what to expect but I quickly realized that I better pay attention.  She brought a few medals and one impressive piece of hardware to go along with her nunchucks and different belts she has received on the way to her current belt - brown.  We had a good time and I learned a few things in the process and hopefully we'll be able to do this again one day.  After all, now that I have done one session, I have a few ideas for the next one!    Here's a look at a few of the photos from the afternoon :

I have a handful of families that hold a special place in my heart simply because they have been with me since the beginning of my venture into photography.  This is one of those families and I have been blessed to watch the family, and the kids, grow over several years.  I met with them again last weekend for their photo session and I had a fun time working with them on a beautiful fall morning.  Time passed quickly as talked and played but I did manage to grab a few photos before we finished.  Here's a quick glimpse of their session :

On Saturday, Jasmine and her mother drove from Louisville to meet me for a 13th birthday photo session.  I am not talking about cake and ice cream photos either.  Jasmine wanted to model and, of course, have some nice photos from the afternoon.  Pretty cool, huh?  She was easy going, relaxed, and at one point she told me that she could do this every single weekend.  That might be difficult however as she is already committed to playing softball and has done so for pretty much half of her life.  I tried to give her a taste of life in front of the camera as a model and yet incorporate some of her sport into the session.  I think she had a good time and that was obviously the desired result on your birthday.  Happy Birthday Jasmine!  Here is a quick look at a few photos from your session :

I always say that meeting new families and interesting people is one of my favorite things about photography but in this case, getting back together with old friends is even better!  Having been quite some time since I had last seen this family, I was glad to get reacquainted with them during our session time.  We met in downtown Lexington and the morning could not have been more beautiful as we made our way through the historic streets and posing for photos as the opportunities arose.  Time passed quickly but not before I was able to grab some great photos.  Here's a look at a few from their session :

I have to admit, the more that you work with families, the more you feel like part of their family.  I realize that might sound strange but it is true.  The kids begin to learn your name and don't hide behind their parent's legs.  The parents are more relaxed and begin to not only trust me but also feel free to inform me if they don't like a certain pose or style.  All of that factors into a familiarity that brings a certain ease and relaxed atmosphere to the photo session.

All of that can be said of this session from last weekend.  I have lost count of the number of times we have worked together but each time I enjoy myself.  Sunday we met in a local park here in Lexington, KY and, although cool, the colors could not have been better.  My favorite part of this session though would be the two girls singing all the lyrics to Frozen and playing in the leaves at the same time.  It was part surreal and part fascinating but definitely something that I won't forget.  As for the kids, they'll probably only remember me making animated monkey sounds to get their attention.  Oh well, that's just part of the job!  Here's a look at a few from the day :
