An Afternoon Engagement Session with Kenna and Steven | {Lexington Ky Wedding Photographer}

After some rescheduling due to weather, I finally had the chance to get outside and work with Kenna and Steven.  Their wedding is a couple of short months away and I was eagerly looking forward to this session beforehand.  They have a pretty cool story of being high school sweethearts, going down different paths for a while, and then coming back to each other again.  We also had a very sweet assistant with us Saturday as Kenna's daughter joined us in the park, reenacted her part in the proposal story, and posed for a few of her own shots.  I think she's going to be a big hit in the wedding!  The day was perfect, they all did great, and I am looking forward to working with them again in June.  Here are a few photos from the day :

And Baby Makes Three - Children That Is | {Lexington Ky Photographer}

Having been a little over a year since I had worked with this family, I was looking forward to meeting again and catching up on any new changes.   The obvious change was quickly apparent and the two kids I photographed last time were now going to be a big brother and sister!  Having worked with them twice now, I have no doubt that they will make good siblings.   Mom and Dad decided not to find out if they'll have a little brother or sister and I think that is so exciting in an age where all information is available instantaneously.  One thing is for sure, in about six weeks they'll finally know which name they will get to use!  Watching families grow and capturing these moments in time are the best components of family photography.  Kids grow and families change quickly but the photograph is a marker in time.  Enjoy the preview of their session :

2015 Keeneland Spring Meet | {Lexington Ky Photographer}

Being a photographer in Lexington Ky, I am fortunate to have quick and easy access to one of the most exciting sports here in the Bluegrass - horse racing.  Every spring and fall thousands gather for three weeks at Keeneland Race Course for thoroughbred racing.  There is nothing more colorful than the silks on the jockeys, the men in their bow ties, and the ladies in their sundresses.  It is a great place to meet, eat, and drink an afternoon away while enjoying the races.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to return on the opening day of the spring meet.  Unfortunately, the weather was not quite as cooperative.  However, overcast skies, rain, and the threat of storms were not enough to dampen the spirit of the crowd.  The weather broke for a few hours giving spectators the chance to crowd the rail in front of the grandstand - one of my favorite places to view the race!  There is no comparison to the sound of the pounding hooves as the horses round the final turn and head down the homestretch.  As they draw closer to the finish one is amazed at their size and the speed at which they travel toward the finish line accompanied by the roar of the crowd, the celebration of victory, and the tossing of losing betting tickets.

If you are ever visiting Lexington, Ky during a meet then by all means take advantage of the opportunity and add Keeneland to your list of things to do - you won't be disappointed!

Brothers | {Lexington Ky Photographer}

I love my repeat families!  It gives me the chance to form relationships with the parents and simultaneously watch the children grow.  Obviously, with that stated, this is one of those families.  I last saw them when the little guy was only a newborn so I was amazed to catch up with them again now that it's almost 8 months later.  Both he and his big brother are growing so quickly - it's truly amazing how quickly time flies.

We used a Radio Flyer Wagon in his newborn session so we decided to bring it to the park for this one as well.  The wagon, a sunny afternoon, and of course the playground formed the backdrop for some good family memories.  Here are a few from the day:

Christine and Tyler | {Lexington Ky Wedding Photographer}

Last weekend I was able to work with Christine and Tyler photographing their wedding day.  They worked diligently planning all the details and I had the opportunity to capture each one.  As usual with my wedding coverage, my friend and second shooter Steve worked with me to help with the work flow.  They are a great couple and we had a blast working together with them as well as the entire wedding party.

Bride/Bridesmaids

I began the day with the Bride and Bridesmaid's at a local hotel here in Lexington, Ky capturing hair and makeup before they headed over the the church.  Their hair was done by a longtime family friend from Cincinnati and Christine's sister Catherine was in charge of makeup.

Groom/Groomsmen

When your name is Ty Cobb and you work for the local minor league baseball team, The Lexington Legends, then it only makes sense to get ready at the ballpark.  That's exactly what the guys did and I had Steve meet them at Whitaker Ball Park to photograph them as they prepared for the wedding.  They took advantage of the location and made the most of the opportunity to have a little fun beforehand.

The Wedding

The wedding ceremony was held at Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church.  The historic church was built around 1800 with land donated by the family of Mary Todd Lincoln and provided the perfect backdrop for the afternoon.  We took advantage of the ample space for photos of the first look, portraits, and group photos before the wedding and then continued with the ceremony itself and the celebration that followed before heading off to the reception venue.  Friends and family all worked well braving the cool temperatures to create some lasting memories :

The Reception

Following the wedding, everyone made their way to Andover Country Club for the reception.  The theme was a Christmas wedding and the venue was decorated beautifully for the occasion.  The Christmas tree was full of lights and ornaments which also served as keepsakes for the guests to take with them as they left at the end of the night.  Tears were shed, laughter was plentiful, and a good time was had by all as the DJ kept the dance floor hopping all night long.   Congratulations to the Christine and Tyler on a wonderful day and may God bless you and your marriage!
