Lexington Ky Children's Photographer | {Look who's turning one!}

Some days in life everything goes well.  Such was the case on Sunday afternoon when I met this guy at the park for his one year session.  He was in an awesome mood, all smiles and ready to work.  He made my job easy and I'm glad I don't have to be responsible for picking Christmas card photos!

Since it was one of those days and everything was just falling in place, we also received a benefit from a complete stranger.  It seems she had made a few props and had brought some "snow" for a friend to use with her children.  They were all wrapped up and playing on a nearby playground when she saw us, came over, and asked if we wanted to use her props for our session.  Wow!  It was such a nice gesture that I left feeling good about human kindness, just in time for Christmas.

Here are a few photos from the day :

I had the honor of spending Saturday with this young couple documenting their wedding day.  Friends and family traveled over the Thanksgiving holiday from as far as upstate New York and Los Angeles to help them celebrate their marriage here in Lexington, Ky.  The chapel at Southland Christian Church provided the backdrop for their Winter Wonderland themed wedding.    After the ceremony, we left Southland and headed to The Champions to begin the celebration at their reception.  Both venues offered some ideal photo opportunities and these two were easy to work with.  That resulted in some good times, some laughs, and a day of wonderful memories.  Here is a small preview of their day :

Lexington Ky Family Photographer | {Six month session with Thomas}

I love working with babies as part of their first year package.  My favorite time of that year however, is when they turn six months old.  This was also true of my own children.  There's something about that time when they seem to develop their first little personality and become just big enough to really begin sitting and playing.  But the best part is the smiles -  those big, bright eyed smiles from deep inside.  This guy was no exception and braved the cool air last weekend for his six month session.  Mom, and especially Dad, played a big role in the smiles which led to a great time at the local park.  Here's a preview from the day :

I love meeting and working with new families and last week was no exception.  This family had the added bonus of having a new two month old baby in their first shoot together.  Things went well and working with them was a great experience.   Being a father helps when I work with young families.  I remember that babies have their own schedule, need a little extra attention, and like to eat - often.  I get that.  I've been there.  That leads to patience on my part and helps reassure the mother's that it's going to be fine - it's all good.  She was a good baby, took a break to eat, and was ready to go again.  Just like clockwork.  Here's a preview from the day :

This seems to have been the week for me to begin working with new families.  I have met several over the past few days that have found me through referrals.  Word of mouth is the best advertising and I realize that I would not be this far along my photography journey if it were not for you.  So before I go any further, I want to say Thank You!  I consider it a blessing to be able to do what I do and I am thankful for each of you that send new friends and family my way.

This family was fantastic.  Two kids, full of energy, and a Mom and Dad with a big imagination to help harness that energy into some great photos.  I often hear parents say it is a struggle or difficult to photograph their kids.  What I have found though, is that if you give them time to explore and to play, you will usually get some great natural images.  That's what happened Saturday.  One family with two great kids doing what kids do.  Here are some photos from the day :
