The Schmidt Family - {Lexington Ky Family Photographer}

I don't remember how many times this family and I tried to get together last fall.  I really believe that we were cursed for whatever reason.  Having worked with them a couple of times before, I was really disappointed that it did not work out.  That being said, I was more than happy when they called to set up a session this spring.  The girls had grown so much since I last saw them and working with Mom and Dad was like working with old friends again that you haven't seen in a while.  It's funny how many relationships that I have developed as a photographer and how much I truly enjoy each one.  It's really the best part of the job if you, like me, are a people person!  The best part is that they have already gone ahead and booked their fall session.  Now we just need the weather to cooperate.

Here a few photos from their session:

WA Derby Meet

I don't know how many swim meets that I have photographed now.  What I do know is that I love the challenge of action photography.   It is completely unlike portrait photography in so many ways.  Rapid shutter, Al Servo mode, and higher shutter speed are just a few of the changes that photographers will need to make when switching between the two photographic styles.  A fraction of a second can make the difference between a great shot and a busted shot.

Now that my daughter has been on the Wildcat Aquatics team for several years, I have had time to watch her and her teammates grow and develop.  The changes that take place in swim technique over the years are truly amazing.   The joy of photographing the younger swimmers is that I am reminded of where she began and can appreciate the progress she and her friends have made.  I have to be honest and say that I wish I had been a swimmer myself - until the alarm clock goes off at 4:00 in the morning.  That's when I realize just how dedicated these athletes truly are.

Here is a sample of just a few photos from their meet this past weekend :

Emma and Una | {Lexington Ky Photographer}

Last weekend I took my daughter Emma and her best friend Una out for a photo session in downtown Lexington.   They had been asking for this opportunity for approximately a year so, needless to say, they were both very excited when Sunday rolled around.   I think that they thoroughly enjoyed their time in front of the camera and I enjoyed experimenting with light and some edgy looks that I had been wanting to try for some time.   Una is going on summer vacation with us this year so I have a feeling that this won't be the last you see of these two girls together!  Enjoy the photos :

Luke | {Lexington Ky Senior Photographer}

When you have grown up with the Arboretum as your backyard, it only makes sense to do your senior photography session at that location.  That's exactly what we did Saturday evening here in Lexington as I met with Luke to take these photos.  It was nice to hear about the childhood memories of just being able to walk over and enjoy this location during his youth as well as an account of how the family has enjoyed watching the arboretum mature over the last 15 years.  The evening was perfect and we got to enjoy the sunshine and the breeze as the sun faded over the trees.  Here's a little glimpse of the session:

A day with Jameson | {Lexington Ky Children's Photographer}

Last weekend I had the chance to go out and spend some more time with Jameson.  This was the third time that I have been able to work with him and we decided to go spend the late afternoon at The Arboretum.  It provided ample room to run around, play with sticks, and be a boy!  I'm not quite sure what he liked the best although peek a boo was a hit.  He did stop once to thoroughly check out my camera gear, which I always like.  Once I had his approval, he let me grab a few photos.   Take a look :
