I knew when we first met that this was going to be a fun wedding to document. When you meet a couple that wants to get married on Derby Day in Kentucky and use that for their theme, good things are bound to happen. That's exactly the way things turned out and I could not have imagined a better setting than a local vineyard, Equus Run, as a stunning backdrop. Of course, as any Kentuckian knows, there was a lot of concern with rain on Derby Day but the skies literally cleared a few hours before the ceremony and blue skies greeted the couple as they made their way down the aisle.
For their part, the guests played a great role as the crowd was filled with bow ties, derby hats, and derby fascinators! They were colorful, festive, and displayed great southern hospitality. Of course, no Derby is complete without a little action on the race and therefore a "waging" table was in full swing after the ceremony. Derby hats decorated the guests tables along with vintage green and milk glass vases filled with floral displays. The reception was rounded out with cupcakes and what else, Derby Pie for dessert. The dance floor was filled thanks to the superb sound of The Usual Suspects who did a phenomenal job of keeping everyone entertained throughout the night.
Congratulations to the Colwells! Your wedding day was beautiful and I want to share some of the early highlights here :
